Welcome to Dierks Studios – a place that has been writing music history since 1968, where international careers found their beginning, where technical
innovations and creative mindsets have always connected and where now, after an extensive renovation, 4K is the gateway to the future.
For the past 46 years, Dierks Studios have been the birthplace of many international careers and the creative home of many big artists. The Scorpions’ signature metal sound was developed here. The Krautrock- and Electronic era saw its magical underground beginnings here as well. The studios weren’t just a place to record at. The studios themselves became an instrument. Dieter Dierks’ experience and constant drive for the latest “state of the art” technnology made the “sound-lab in Stommeln” a famous destination for national and international music stars. It’s a long list of names that have frequented the studios, 24 kilometers outside of Cologne: Ike & Tina Turner, Eric Burdon, Rory Gallagher, Jack Bruce, Accept, Plasmatics, Tangerine Dream, Doldingers Passport, Wolf Maahn, Die Toten Hosen and the ›King of Pop‹ himself, Michael Jackson. The dimension of Dierks Studios was expanded with its Audio-and Video Recording Mobiles. Concerts were broadcast live and recorded all over Europe – by artists
such as Al Jarreau, Fats Domino, Oscar Peterson, Harry Belafonte, Michael Chapman, Ella Fitzgerald, The Platters, Brian Auger, Lou Reed, Nana Mouskouri, Santana, Chicago or the Rolling Stones. An editorial vision, innovative marketing strategies, and the development of the DVDplus patent, established the studios as a good size company. In its fifth decade the company’s focus shifted towards repositioning, film production and post-production. Editing suites, a screening room and a green box were added. Focal points: 3D and 4K. The audio department connected the aspects of solid state-console meets D-command, analogue warmth during recordings and digital speed during handling as well as networking, flexibility, and creativity. A new beginning starts at the intersection of tradition and modern times. The history of Dierks Studio is now going into its fifth round or as it’s put in a famous song: “We’ve only just begun…”
